Still Marvellous Melbourne. MELBOURNE is holding its own as one of the most liveable cities in the world
, according to the findings of an international survey released yesterday. It ranked 18th in the annual Mercer Quality of Living Survey of cities around the world, which found Vienna was the world’s most liveable city, while the most unliveable city was Baghdad. Zurich and Geneva were second and third, while Vancouver and Auckland remain joint fourth.Within Australia, Melbourne ranked second after Sydney (10), the same position as last year, with Perth at No. 21 ahead of new entrant Canberra (26). While Sydney and Melbourne held their 2009 positions, Perth slid from last year’s ranking of 17. The survey covered 221 cities. A city’s liveability is based on an evaluation of 39 criteria including political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health.
