Universities with TAFE – dual-sector institutions

RMIT University, Swinburne University of Technology, the Federation University Australia and Victoria University are dual-sector institutions. This means they have a university and a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) division.

Dual-sector institutions offer both higher education and vocational education and training (VET) courses to study. You can transfer course credits between these VET and higher education courses which will provide you with a flexible pathway into higher education.

University information

Course work

Core course material is delivered in lectures and then discussed in smaller tutorials. Science, technology and psychology subjects also involve laboratory work. Assessment is mostly completed through written assignments and examinations.

Degrees usually take three years to complete, although some, like Law and Medicine take longer. You may be offered the opportunity to do a further Honours year, which will involve more course work, research and an Honours thesis.

Doctoral Degree programs require three to four years of full time study. All Doctoral degrees require students to complete a thesis, dissertation, exegesis or similar.
